GIRARD Council will select new councilman for 3rd Ward seat

Published: Sat, July 20, 2002 @ 12:00 a.m.

GIRARD -- Trumbull County's Democratic Party chairman has sent a letter to Girard City Council saying it's up to council to select a new 3rd Ward councilman.

The precinct committee members from the city's 3rd Ward met Thursday night to select a replacement for Brian Kren, who is resigning. Christ Michelakis, party chairman, said the city's 3rd Ward includes four precinct committee members, Sam Lamancusa, Clyde Wagner, Fran Wilson and Jerome Lambert.

Two candidates, Wagner and Pete Shelby III, are vying for the post. Two votes were conducted at Thursday's meeting and both resulted in two votes for each candidate.

Michelakis said a registered letter was sent Friday to Girard Council President Louis J. Adovasio, informing council members they would have to make the decision. Michelakis said council has 30 days from the receipt of the letter to make the appointment.
