HERMITAGE, Pa. -- City commissioners may be willing to sell the municipal building annex at 900 N. Hermitage Road, the city manager said.
The city has no direct use for the building since all of the municipal offices located there were moved into the city building next door after a major expansion and renovation of that facility completed in early 2001.
City Manager Gary Hinkson said the issue came up at a commissioners' work session this week and the administrative staff was directed to send out requests for proposals to see if there is interest in buying the building.
The annex has a therapeutic pool used on a lease basis by Sharon Regional Health System and Penn-Ohio Rehabilitation.
The Mercer County Children's Center is located there, as are the offices of U.S. Rep. Phil English of Erie, R-3rd, and ABI Orthotic & amp; Prosthetic Laboratories. Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV, with headquarters in Grove City, also rents an office space at the annex.
The city bought the building several years ago when there was a need for additional municipal office space.
The city probably wouldn't sell all the land surrounding the municipal building but would subdivide the property just to sell the building, Hinkson said.
