TMH's is an extension of the Heart Hospital at Forum Health's Northside Medical Center.
WARREN -- Trumbull County's first open heart surgery and cardiac catheterization laboratory facilities will open Wednesday at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital.
There will be a public open house from noon to 2 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m.
TMH's open heart surgery program is an extension of the Heart Hospital at Forum Health's Northside Medical Center.
The TMH Foundation donated $2 million to assist with renovation of surgical suites and purchase of equipment for the cardiac program.
Drs. Pyongsoo D. Yoon and Timothy J. Hunter, the cardiothoracic surgeons who have led the open heart surgery program at Northside, which grew from 200 to 600 cardiac procedures a year in four years, will also head the program at TMH.
Dr. Yoon is director. Dr. Hunter, assistant director of cardiothoracic surgery at the Heart Hospital, is also a clinical assistant professor of surgery at Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine.
Both men are certified by the American Board of Surgery and American Board of Thoracic Surgery, and are assistant professors of surgery at Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine.
Dr. Hunter is also a division board member of the American Heart Association, Mahoning/Northern Co lumbiana County Chapter, and a board member of Premier Medical Alliance.
The new open heart surgery facility at TMH is the type of program that raises a community hospital a quantum leap in delivering health care, said Dr. William McCoy, senior vice president of medical affairs.
"These services mean that patients coming to our emergency room with chest pain no longer have to be transported to another hospital for comprehensive treatment," he said.
