Free health screenings
BUTLER, Pa. -- The Veterans Affairs Medical Center, 325 New Castle Road, offers free health screenings for veterans from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday. People wishing to have cholesterol screening must fast eight to 12 hours before their test. Call (800) 362-8262 for more information.

Master sergeant
Air Force Master Sgt. Richard Geister, son of Alberda Geister of Youngstown, was promoted to his present rank while serving at Lakenheath Air Force Base in England. Geister, a graduate of Austintown Fitch High School, attended Youngstown State University for two years. He is married to the former Linda Davis of Mineral Ridge. They have three children, Jessica, Marissa and Emma.
Army captain
Army Lt. Marc R. Angle was recommended for promotion to captain while serving as a Blackhawk helicopter pilot with the 501st Aviation Division in Hanau, Germany. Angle, a son of Dick and Bernadette Angle, is a 1999 graduate of the Military Academy at West Point and received the Achievement Award for meritorious service.
Army Command college
Navy Lt. Comdr. James T. Hosack graduated from the Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kan. The six-phase course, completed over a 10-month period, qualifies Navy officers for promotion to commander.
Hosack is a son of Earl and Shirley Hosack of Poland. He graduated in 1978 from Poland Seminary High School and received his bachelor's degree in 1995 and his master's degree in 1996, both from Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Va.
