Intersection meeting
AUSTINBURG -- The Ohio Department of Transportation will conduct a public involvement meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Austinburg Town Hall at state Route 307 and Chestnut Street in Ashtabula County. The purpose is to discuss the state proposal to improve traffic safety at state Routes 45/307 by adding turning lanes, install a full traffic signal and new drainage. Plans and maps will be displayed.
The public is invited to offer comments then or by mailing them to Mohamed Darwish, District 4 deputy director, ODOT, 705 Oakwood St., Ravenna 44266; Attention: William E. Murphy, District 4 planning and programs administrator. Deadline is Aug. 21.
Balloon Quest
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Brightly colored hot air balloons will fill the sky this week as part of the third annual Western Pennsylvania Balloon Quest. The yearly fund-raiser for the Union Township Volunteer Fire Department will be at Scotland Meadows Park, off Scotland Lane, Thursday to July 21.
Gates will open at 5 p.m. Thursday and a special night launching of the balloons will be at 9:15 p.m. if weather permits. There will also be rides, crafts and food until 10 p.m.
Gates will open at 3 p.m. Friday, and another launch is set for 6:30 p.m.
Weekend launches are set for 6 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. There will be entertainment and demonstrations in the park both days.
Dinosaur at airport
IMPERIAL, Pa. (AP) -- The Carnegie Museum of Natural History will soon display a near-life-size model of a Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton at Pittsburgh International Airport starting in September. The 15-foot-high, 30-foot-long model is designed to promote the highlights of the region to incoming travelers, including the 100th anniversary of the first rex discovery, which is on display at the museum in Pittsburgh. The Carnegie has the third-largest repository of dinosaur fossils in the world.
Mustang car show
LIBERTY -- The Mustang Club of America National Mustang Stampede Car Show continues today at the Holiday Inn MetroPlex with a visit by Ford Motor Company's Living Legends 2 Tour, featuring the 2003 Mach 1, the 500 horsepower GT40 concept car, the Forty-Nine concept car, the new Thunderbird and a never-before-seen 2003 Mustang Pony. The free national event is to run till about 3 p.m. Proceeds from an auction and registration fees will be donated to Forum Health Tod Children's Hospital.
