World Youth Day

ERIE, Pa. -- About 500 youth and adults from the Catholic Diocese of Erie are expected to participate with nearly a million pilgrims in World Youth Day activities in Toronto from July 22-28.

Pope John Paul II is expected to meet with pilgrims July 25, lead them in a prayer vigil July 27 and celebrate Mass on July 28. Other activities for World Youth Day include workshops, concerts, prayer and opportunities to form new friendships with youth and others from all over the world.

Bishop Donald W. Trautman will attend World Youth Day from July 25-28. The Catholic Diocese of Erie includes Mercer County.

Mountain retreat

YOUNGSTOWN -- Woman-to-Woman Ministry of New Bethel Baptist Church will have its 2002 Annual Mountain Retreat at Olmsted Manor, Ludlow, Pa., from Thursday through July 20. This year's theme is "Women of God: Being Made for the Master's Use."

Featured speakers will be Dr. Carolyn Marshall, co-pastor of Soul's Harvest Christian Center, Hallandale Beach, Fla., and Rev. Lorretta Pernice, Pastor of Elam Christian Center of Warren.

Women's events

YOUNGSTOWN -- The Women's Department of Greater Mount Zion Church of God in Christ will feature guest speaker Elder Greg Jordan of Mansfield, the minister of music for Ohio North Jurisdiction 1, at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday.

The church will also have its Fourth Annual Women of Praise Conference on August 8-11. The "Armed for Battle" clinic will be from noon to 2 p.m. Aug. 8 and 9 with a 6 p.m. worship service, On Aug. 10, the clinic will run from 8-10 a.m. and worship services will be at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.; and on Aug. 11, the worship service will be at 11 a.m., with a ministry in the arts at 6 p.m.

Conference speakers include Elder Gwen McCurry of Cleveland, evangelist Lori Porter of Akron and prophetess Pam Vinnett of Tulsa, Okla., author of "This Psychic Prophetic Age."

Labyrinth Walk

VILLA MARIA, Pa. -- EverGreen will present a Labyrinth Walk from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Villa Maria Community Center. The theme is "Journey of Non-Violence." No registration is required. Call (724) 964-8920, Ext. 3387.

Music presentation

BOARDMAN -- Reg and Gretchen Dunneman from Binghamton, N.Y., will sing at the 10:20 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday services at Glenwood Methodist Church. Since 1993, their itinerary of doing more than 120 concerts a year has taken them all along the East Coast.

Flame Fellowship meets

YOUNGSTOWN -- Josephine Harapcio will speak at 11 a.m. Monday when the Youngstown chapter of Flame Fellowship meets in the Georgianna Parker Activity Center at Boardman Park. Lunch is available for $7 by reservation only.
