John Mang and Joe Skocik sparked the 10-6 win in the losers bracket.
STRUTHERS -- John Mang pitched nine innings as Line Drive Academy bounced back in the losers bracket as it eliminated Astro Falcons 10-6 in the 10th Mickey Mantle state championship tournament Friday at Cene Park.
Joe Skocik went 4-for-4 to pace Line Drive. Dimitrius Makridas hit two doubles. Steve Orlosky and Makridas each drove in two runs.
Earlier in the day, Skocik went 2-for-5 with an RBI as Line Drive lost to Wayne County 7-5.
Although Chris Tremblay, Mike Pulakas and Mike Claudio each went 2-for-3, the Astro Falcons were out-slugged by Cuyahoga Falls 16-8 in a third-round contest.
Youngstown Express was handed a 15-5 setback by Ohio Thunder. Josh Geric went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs in a winners bracket contest.
In the losers bracket, Youngstown Express out-hit Shaker Heights 19-11 and held leads of 7-4 and 9-6, but bowed out, 10-9, of the tournament as Shaker scored the deciding run in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Sean Carr paced Youngstown Express with four hits, while Mike Busin and Matt Geramita added two hits apiece.
Wolf Construction was eliminated by Cleveland Cage Club Yard Dogs 15-4. Donnie Kirkwood went 3-for-3 for the losers.
The Yard Dogs were paced by Bill Froehlich, who had four hits. His grandmother is Barbara O'Neill, formerly of Youngstown.
Becdir was eliminated by the Twinsburg Tigers 14-6. Adam Boris sparked the losers with two hits and he drove in two runs.
In other games, Boys of Summer North eliminated Fielder's Choice 7-6; Andy's 9ers turned back North Coast 8-3 and Boys of Summer North 17-9.
Line Drive is the only local team remaining in the tournament.
Games today at Cene Park will be played 12:30 p.m., 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.
