WARREN -- Uninsured and underinsured people have a new place to seek medical services.

Warren West Community Health Center's grand opening is set for July 12. The facility, at 716 Tod Ave., offers podiatry, pediatrics and adolescent medicine, adult medicine, health screenings, hearing and speech services, lab testing, dental services and diabetes management.

"We actually have state-of-the-art diabetes services," said Beth Haddle, the center's research and development director.

The center formerly operated in a building on Palmyra Road. It moved to the Tod Avenue site when it received a grant and certification as a federally qualified health center and opened its doors Monday.

One-stop shopping

Haddle described the center as one-stop shopping for health care because of the array of services offered.

"We not only provide services to the uninsured but to the underinsured as well," she said.

That's people such as those with Medicare who don't have complete coverage.

"We actually expect dental to be an extremely large part of the services offered out there," Haddle said.

"The services are open to anyone, but we do have a sliding fee scale based on federal poverty guidelines," Haddle said.

People without insurance may see a board-certified physician for $10 including lab work. The center accepts most major insurance providers although preferred provider and health maintenance organization plans aren't accepted.

Haddle said the center also plans to add more services such as diet and nutrition counseling.

"We're phasing everything in as we open," she said.

The center employs about 12 people. It's affiliated the same corporation than runs the Youngstown Community Health Center.

"It's something that's in a sense owned by the community," Haddle said, referring to the nonprofit status.
