Local veterans retire flags with decorum and honor

Published: Sat, July 6, 2002 @ 12:00 a.m.

At left, John P. Brown III of Boardman retires an American flag in the only acceptable manner: He burns it. Brown, who is commander of the Amvets Department of Ohio, took part in the retirement ceremonies Friday at the American Legion Post 15 in Poland. In the photo above, Joe Vrabel, left, of Poland helps retire American flags along with Brown, center, and Joe Wylandt of Columbus. Vrable is a second vice commander of the post, and Wylandt is the state commander of the Sons of the American Legion.
