YOUNGSTOWN Cops respond to 911 call, find body

Relatives received a call from an unidentified woman and went to the house.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Inside a Whitman Lane house today, police found Mike Reese dead at the front door, shot in the head, two bulletproof vests, a pit bull and suspected marijuana.
A 911 call was made about 12:45 a.m. from someone who heard a loud bang. Near the open door of the house at 61 Whitman, police found Reese, 24, no address given, dressed in black leather knee-length shorts, black leather ankle-high shoes and a multicolored print shirt.
Relatives who identified Reese for police said they'd received a call from an unidentified woman and went to the East Side house. Reese's pager had a recent unanswered message on it, police said.
Appears to be a hangout
Police noted in their report that the house has electric but no water service and appears to be a hangout. Officers found liquor bottles, beer cans, suspected marijuana on the kitchen table and two bulletproof vests in a bedroom closet.
Evidence collected at the scene -- in the street and driveway -- included a portion of a fake fingernail, menthol cigarettes, a silver earring and a cigarette with lipstick on the filter.
A small black pit bull was found in the house. There were three vehicles at the crime scene, none of which was registered to Reese.
County records show the house owner is Catherine Allison of Bennington Avenue.
Reese is the city's 18th homicide victim this year, compared with 17 slayings at this time last year.
