WARREN -- The city has suspended its head building department official for failing to maintain a valid driver's license.
Wayne DaBelko was suspended Friday after city officials learned that his driving privileges were suspended because of his arrest on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
Cortland police arrested DaBelko on Jan. 17. He pleaded innocent to the misdemeanor count Jan. 18 before Judge Thomas Campbell in Trumbull County Central District Court. DaBelko is free on a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to return to court at 9:30 a.m. April 8.
DaBelko is in charge of Warren's building department and its inspectors. Gary Cicero, the city's personnel director, said DaBelko's job requires him to drive a city vehicle.
Suspension: The city suspended DaBelko for four hours a day until his driving privileges are restored.
The city must have a building official in place to sign necessary documents, so DaBelko will do paperwork from his desk during his four-hour shift, Cicero said.
DaBelko could not be reached.
According to the police report, an anonymous caller telephoned 911 around 6:40 p.m. Jan. 17 and told a dispatcher that a white van was swerving on state Route 5 near Brother's Pizza.
