STRUTHERS -- Julie Gallo scored 10 of her team's 16 points in the third quarter to help Poland High defeat Struthers 49-29 in a Metro Athletic Conference girls basketball game Saturday.
Kristy Gaudiose hit for six points in the first quarter as the Bulldogs (8-2, 3-1) took a 24-15 lead at the break. Poland out-scored the Wildcats (3-8, 1-3) 16-8 in the third to lead 40-23 entering the final eight minutes.
Gallo had 17 points and Gaudiose had 14 for the Bulldogs.
Laura Bell led the Wildcats with eight points.
Mooney 58, St. Thomas Aquinas 42: YOUNGSTOWN -- Knotted 34-34 after three quarters, Cardinal Mooney made some key baskets and then cashed in 14 of 18 free throws in the fourth quarter as the Cardinals (7-5) won at DeBartolo-York Gymnasium Saturday.
Aieshya Dixon made 13 of her 23 points in the fourth quarter including five of six at the line. The junior center also had 18 rebounds and six blocks.
Lori Patrone made seven of seven free throws toward her 13 points and the senior guard also had eight assists and four steals. Megan Maloney added 11 points for Mooney which snapped a two-game losing streak.
Ashley Sanders had 15 points for Aquinas (9-3).
Girard 78, LaBrae 21: GIRARD -- The Indians (10-1, 7-1 MAC) ran out to a 28-1 lead in the first quarter and routed LaBrae.
Girard freshman Cachet Murray had 17 points, 10 rebounds and six steals, while Tealle Hunkus and Stephanie Scarnecchia each added 15 points. Hunkus also grabbed 14 of Girard's 45 rebounds and she made six steals. Jen Maravola dished out 14 assists.
Cassondra Wilson led LaBrae (0-11, 0-8) with 10 points.
Crestview 67, Southern 35: SALINEVILLE -- The Rebels (5-6, 2-3) put three players in double figures. Erin Millinger led the balanced scoring attack with 17 points. Katie Kibby added14 and Ashleigh Parker finished with 13.
Britany McElroy was the only Indians' (3-7, 0-5) in double figures with 12 points.
Woodrow Wilson 46, Youngstown Christian 37: AUSTINTOWN -- Althea Pearce collected nine points and 12 rebounds to lead Woodrow Wilson to its first win after 11 losses at the Highway Tabernacle Gym.
