YSU BASKETBALL Today's games

WOMEN

Who: YSU (4-8, 1-1) vs. Detroit (6-6, 2-0).

When: 7 p.m.

Where: Beeghly Center.

The coaches: Ed DiGregorio (305-208) is in his 19th season with the Penguins. Anne Rexford (41-27) is in her third season with the Titans.

YSU starters: Jen Perugini, 6-2 freshman forward (12.9 points per game, 10.9 rebounds per game); Cathy Hanek, 5-8 sophomore guard (8.3, 1.6); Jenny Horner, 6-2 senior center (10.1, 6.9); Maggie Johnston, 5-5 junior guard (6.6, 2.7); Heather Harris, 6-0 sophomore forward (12.9, 3.6).

Detroit starters: Michelle James, 5-5 senior guard (14.8 ppg, 4.1 rpg); Molly Peterman, 5-10 senior guard (12.8, 5.7); Michelle Bortz, 6-2 junior center (2.5, 4.2); Lori Wild, 6-0 sophomore forward (2.4, 3.2); Randee Henry, 6-1 sophomore forward (11.1, 6.6).

Scouting report: The Penguins recorded their first win in the Horizon League last Saturday by beating Butler 75-67 as Perugini recorded her sixth double-double this season. She leads the Horizon League in rebounding. Detroit is tied for the lead in the Horizon, but the Titans have lost their last three games on the road.

The series: YSU holds a 4-3 edge. The last meeting was in 1992 when Detroit won 95-70 at home. The last meeting in Beeghly Center was 1991, with YSU winning 84-72.

Radio: None.

MEN

Who: YSU (3-9, 1-1) vs. Cleveland State (7-7, 1-2).

When: 7 p.m.

Where: Convocation Center, Cleveland.

The coaches: John Robic (34-36) is in his third season with the Penguins. Rollie Massimino (77-82) is in his sixth season with the Vikings and is 502-360 all-time in 29 seasons.

YSU starters: Stephen Flores, 6-foot-7 senior forward (7.3 points per game, 4.8 rebounds per game); TeJay Anderson, 6-6 sophomore forward (12.8, 6); Jimmy Moore, 6-5 freshman guard (8.6, 5.3); Doug Underwood, 6-3 freshman guard (12.1, 3.8); Ryan Patton, 5-11 senior guard (16.3, 2.3).

Cleveland State starters: Jamal Harris, 6-1 senior guard (15 ppg, 3.5 rpg); Theo Dixon, 6-6 senior guard (14.4, 6.3); Jermaine Robinson, 6-2 sophomore guard (7.1, 2.9); Andre Williams, 6-5 junior forward (6.6, 5.1); Tahric Gosley, 6-8 junior forward (8.7, 5.1).

Scouting report: The Penguins are coming off their first Horizon League victory, beating Wright State 87-80 at Beeghly Center on Saturday. Freshman Brian Radakovich probably will be out for the rest of the season with a heart problem, and sophomore Khari McQueen suffered a fractured foot and will be out at least three weeks. Cleveland State suffered a 62-45 loss to Butler in its last home contest. The Vikings are 5-2 at home this year.

The series: It dates to 1930 when CSU was known as Fenn College. YSU owns a 30-25 edge. The teams last met in 1996, with the Vikings posting a 69-61 win at home. YSU has never won at the Convocation Center in four previous games.
