Suspect in court
AUSTINTOWN -- Bond was set at $250,000 for Jeffery R. Jones, 22, of Albright-McKay Road N.E., Brookfield, who appeared before Judge Loren Popio in Mahoning County Court here Monday on charges of aggravated robbery, kidnapping, grand theft and safecracking.
He was arrested by the police in Louisville, Ky., based on information from Austintown police that Jones left the area by bus after Antone's Restaurant, 4837 Mahoning Ave., was robbed at gunpoint about 9:53 p.m. Wednesday. An undisclosed amount of cash dropped by the fleeing robbers was recovered near the restaurant. Police said they expect to make more arrests. Jones will be back in court for a preliminary hearing at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
YOUNGSTOWN -- The trial of two teen-age boys accused of beating and robbing three people a year ago, including an 83-year-old man, was postponed Monday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.
James Goins and Chad Barnette, both 17, are charged with attempted aggravated murder, receiving stolen property, two counts of aggravated burglary and felonious assault and three counts of aggravated robbery and kidnapping. They are being tried as adults. A new date has not been set.
YOUNGSTOWN -- U.S. Rep. James A. Traficant of Poland, D-17th, has announced his nominees for the military academies. They are:

NORTH LIMA -- Beaver Township trustees will have their annual organizational meeting at 6:15 p.m. today. They will conduct their regular monthly meeting beginning at 7:30 p.m. Both meetings will be in the township meeting room in the South Range Plaza.
SEBRING -- The latest negotiations between the Sebring school board and the district's teachers union produced little progress, union spokeswoman JoAnn Jones said this morning. The sides met for four hours Sunday. The teachers union has been working without a contract since Aug. 31. Superintendent Howard Friend said school board negotiators also think little progress was made at Sunday's meeting, and further negotiations, which are with a federal mediator, have not been scheduled.
Grief counseling set
HUBBARD -- An organizational meeting for Grief Recovery Instructional Support Groups will be at 7 p.m. Jan. 15 in Kelley-Robb Funeral Home Care Center.
This 24th series of recovery groups is led by Philip Roland, grief counselor at the funeral home since 1991, and open to anyone who has suffered a loss.
The 10-week program is designed to help begin the grief-recovery process and set new goals, said Dennis Robb, funeral home owner.
Mary Jean Hunt, a registered nurse, is the facilitator. There is no cost or obligation.
