MERCER COUNTY English nominates 10 area students

HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Ten of the 20 high school students nominated by U.S. Rep. Phil English of Erie, R-21st, for appointment to U.S. military academies are Mercer County residents.

"The students that I am nominating are well-rounded, exemplifying the qualities for which the academies look," English said.

The students apply in October and are interviewed by a selection committee which makes recommendations to English.

The academies make the final selections and offer appointments to students.

The Mercer County nominees are:

NAVAL ACADEMY

Katrina Altman, Lakeview High School.

Jenny Ferderber, Grove City High School.

Joseph Kulka, Sharpsville High School.

Ian Uber, Grove City High School.

MILITARY ACADEMY (WEST POINT)

Thomas Campbell, Kennedy Christian High School.

Jerry Drew II, Lakeview High School.

Michael Stephens, Greenville High School.

AIR FORCE ACADEMY

Benjamin Wheeler, Greenville High School.

Corrine Young, Greenville High School.

Jack Ziegler, Greenville High School.
