TAC Early deficit dooms N. Falls

Brookfield used a balanced attack to defeat Girard.

NEWTON FALLS -- The LaBrae High School basketball team put an end to Newton Falls' winning streak Friday.

The Vikings (6-2, 4-2) built a 39-28 lead heading into the fourth quarter and held on for a 49-41 decision in the Trumbull Athletic Conference game.

Brett Briscoe and Tony Watkins each scored 10 points for the Vikings.

Newton Falls (8-1, 4-1) was led by Jeff Stanley with 17 points and seven rebounds.

Brookfield 59, Girard 52: GIRARD -- A balanced scoring attack was the difference for Brookfield (5-3).

The Warriors' Adam Daugherty scored 18 points, while Ted Swogger chipped in with 15 and Julius Hayes finished with 12. Swogger pulled down eight rebounds.

Randy Mason took scoring honors for the Indians (3-5, 1-4) with 19 points. Walter Jones added 11.

Lakeview 51, Liberty 45: YOUNGSTOWN -- With the game tied at 45 and 80 seconds remaining, sophomore Matt Nero hit a 3-pointer to help Lakeview.

Joel Marshall of Liberty (2-6, 2-3 TAC) hit a 3-pointer as time expired on the third quarter to knot the game at 35-35. Marshall had 15 points and Bradley Fletcher 10 for the Leopards.

Brandon Bakker scored 14 baskets and had 29 points while Nero scored five points for the Bulldogs (4-3, 3-1).

Bakker and Kevin Rigby each had six rebounds for Lakeview while Mario Miller had six rebounds for Liberty.

Bristol 83, Bloomfield 43: NORTH BLOOMFIELD -- David Whitt had a 29-point, five-rebound game for the Panthers.

Craig Giesy also had 14 points and six rebounds while Sam Ratcliff added 11 points for Bristol.

Kevin Brzyscz led Bloomfield with 13 points and five rebounds while Cody Troyer added 10 points.

Luthern East 61, Maplewood 50: CORTLAND -- Lutheran East took command of the game when it held a 45-32 lead heading into the final quarter.

Joey Young paced the Rockets (4-3, 3-2) with 14 points. Derek Chappell led Lutheran East with 18 points.
