BOYS ICL/TCL ROUNDUP Kirk leads S. Range past Rockets 67-39

Sebring remains unbeaten in the Tri-County League after a win over Columbiana.

NORTH LIMA -- Matt Kirk scored 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds Friday to lead the South Range High basketball team to a 67-39 victory over Lowellville.

George Rohan and Ryan Copeland each scored 13 points as the Raiders stayed unbeaten (5-0 overall and 2-0 Inter-County League).

Copeland had 10 rebounds while Rohan made four assists. Jason King made six steals.

Andy Peterson led the Rockets (0-9, 0-3) with 10 points.

Springfield 89, Jackson-Milton 53: NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Springfield Local scored 33 points in the first quarter and Jackson-Milton didn't score that many in the first three quarters.

Eleven players scored for the Tigers (6-1, 2-0 ICL) in their easy win over the Blue Jays (4-3, 1-2).

Dan Schuler and Dave Rispinto each had eight points in the first quarter when the Tigers jumped in front 33-13.

Springfield scored eight 3-point goals overall including four in the first eight minutes -- two each by Pat Birch and Rispinto.

Schuler scored 16 points, Jeff Mershimer scored 14 while Birch and Rispinto each had 11.

Schuler had 11 rebounds for the Tigers who have won five in a row and who led 56-26 at the break.

Tim Shaw scored 16 points for the Blue Jays who trailed 71-32 after three quarters.

Western Reserve 60, McDonald 53: BERLIN CENTER -- Ryan Jones fired in 17 points while Jeremy Shevel and Greg Speece added 13 each as Western Reserve (1-8, 1-2 ICL) finally broke into the win column.

Nick Testa tossed in 19 points to key a balanced attack for McDonald, which outscored the Blue Devils in the second half after falling behind 28-16. Ken McKay added 11 points and Kevin Stonestreet 10.

Sebring 62, Columbiana 58: SEBRING -- Greg VanKirk went 4-for-4 from the foul line in the fourth quarter and scored eight of his 21 points in the spell for the Trojans (7-0, 3-0 Tri-County League).

With 14 seconds to go the Clippers pulled within two points (60-58) but VanKirk made two foul shots to seal the win. Josh Dean added 21 points for the Trojans.

Girard Grim scored 19 points and Nate Shaw had 14 for the Clippers (3-6, 0-3) who fell behind 21-7 in the first period.

United 70, Leetonia 48: LEETONIA -- United (5-3, 2-1) had three players in double figures in the TCL contest.

Grant Cope sparked the Golden Eagles with 18 points. Devan Peters added 17 and Nick Schneider finished with 10.

Ryan Dowling paced Leetonia (3-5, 1-2) with 14 points. Fred Gray chipped in with 11.

East Palestine 62, Southern 50: EAST PALESTINE -- Brian Hanott scored 20 points and Brett Young added 14 to lead East Palestine (1-6, 1-2 TCL) to its first win of the season.

Chad Jones added 10 points for the Bulldogs.

Josh Diaz scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for Southern (3-4, 0-3). Jay Staley added 12 points.
