MJ Designs offersservices to the public
LIBERTY -- MJ Designs, 1648 Tanglewood Drive, is now offering its services to the public. The 1-year-old company has been working with local county social service agencies but now will work directly with people with disabilities and their families.
The company, which was founded by Jane Gainard and Mimi Dreher, offers life planning, financial advising, recreation therapy and consulting.
Taft reports successin trade, investments
COLUMBUS -- Gov. Bob Taft said the state's international trade and investment mission efforts with foreign companies this year generated more than $57 million in new business for Ohio companies and $114 in new investment.
Taft led a trip to South America in March and conducted meetings by telephone with European countries after an October trade trip was postponed.

UPMC ponders saleof insurance business
PITTSBURGH -- UPMC Health System executives are considering selling their insurance subsidiary or forming a joint venture with another company, UPMC's board chairman said.
UPMC board members learned that executives had begun talks with United Healthcare, a subsidiary of Minnesota-based UnitedHealth Group, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported in Friday's editions. United Healthcare is the nation's second-largest managed health care insurer behind Aetna Inc.
Executives not only are considering a sale, but also are reviewing joint ventures and are debating no change at all, said UPMC board Chairman Richard L. Fischer. He would not reveal the companies with whom the health system has had talks.
