Carneys observe 50th anniversary at private dinner
POLAND -- Mr. and Mrs. William J. Carney, 2984 Algonquin Drive, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Feb. 16 at a private dinner given by family members at Davidson's Restaurant in Youngstown.
Their family consists of a son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Barbara Carney of Struthers, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Carney and the former JoAnne Ashley were married Feb. 15, 1952, at St. Patrick Church in Youngstown. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He retired in 1992 from the Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority, for which he was a housing inspector. He belongs to the Youngstown Men's Garden Club, is third vice president of the Gardeners of America, and is past commander of AMVETS Post 35. He serves on the board of Volunteer Service Agency and also is a past president of the Friends of Fellows Riverside Gardens and the Brownlee Woods Rod and Gun Club.
A homemaker, Mrs. Carney, volunteers at the D.D. and Velma Davis Education and Visitor Center at Fellows Riverside Gardens.
The couple are members of Holy Family Church.
