GIRLS DIVISION II TOURNAMENT Salem continues dominance of Niles


AUSTINTOWN -- Salem High continued its dominance over Niles.
Alyson Cotter scored 17 points to lead the Quakers to a 63-29 victory in a Division II tournament game Monday at Fitch High.
Salem (12-9) defeated Metro Athletic Conference rival Niles (5-16) three times this season and owns a 24-3 edge in the all-time series.
Lauren Teal added 12 points and six blocks for the Quakers, who will face Hubbard at 6 p.m. Thursday in a sectional final.
Salem's Lizzie Jesko dished out seven assists, while Sarah Hamilton grabbed nine rebounds.
Stacia Ray scored 10 points for Niles, which shot 9-for-52 (17 percent) from the field. Michelle Rhodes grabbed 10 rebounds.
Struthers 59, Wilson 26: Struthers held Wilson scoreless in the first quarter on its way to a tournament victory. The Wildcats (6-15) will face second-seeded West Branch in a sectional final Thursday at 7:45 p.m.
Laura Berry had 22 points and 10 rebounds to pace Struthers, while Kristy Marapese added 11 points, eight rebounds, six steals and four assists. Ariel Hardy also had nine steals and three assists.
Wilson (2-19), which suffered 41 turnovers, was led by Charity Burt's 10 points. Leslie Norwood grabbed 11 rebounds.
