Modell misledas Lewis flees

The Washington Redskins propelled coaching salaries to a new level for the second time in a month Monday, giving former Ravens defensive coordinator Marvin Lewis a three-year contract worth about $2.5 million to be the team's defensive coordinator. Lewis, who could earn substantially more than $1 million per year with incentives, becomes the highest paid assistant coach in the league by a large margin. He'll have a bigger salary than some head coaches and will make more than twice the estimated average salary for assistants. After the Ravens thought they had a deal to retain Lewis, owner Art Modell issued a statement saying he had been misled. C6.
