Springfield beats Mathews to clinch ICL tie

NEW MIDDLETOWN -- The Springfield Local High boys basketball team clinched a tie for the Inter-County League title Friday in the Tigers' gymnasium.
The Tigers put four players in double figures as they upended Mathews, 88-47.
Springfield (16-1, 12-0) had a commanding 41-14 lead by intermission.
Jim McLaughlin and Dan Schuler led the Tigers' balanced scoring attack with 16 points apiece.
Pat Birch added 12 points, four assists and five steals. Keaton Bullen chipped in with 10 points and five steals.
Aaron Wood grabbed nine rebounds and Dave Rispinto had four assists.
Adam Hughes and Marc Burcham led Mathews (5-13, 4-8) with 11 points apiece. Anthony Jones added 10.
Mineral Ridge 68, Jackson-Milton 56: MINERAL RIDGE -- Malachi Hall went on a 30-point scoring spree to spark Mineral Ridge (14-3, 10-2).
The Rams led 48-38 after three quarters of action. Chris Anderson chipped in with 17 points. Bobby Burgess had six steals.
Nick Rubenstahl led the Bluejays (5-12, 2-10) with 20 points.
Western Reserve 64, Lowellville 63: BERLIN CENTER -- With the score tied at 63-all and just six seconds remaining, Kyle Trimble hit the second of two free throw tries for the Blue Devils' win.
Trimble and Ryan Jones each finished with 16 points and Greg Speece had 14 points and 15 rebounds for Western Reserve (5-11, 5-6).
Chad Likens scored 16 points and Andy Peterson had 15 for the Rockets (0-12, 0-18).
