Pregnant woman assaulted by man

YOUNGSTOWN -- A 32-year-old pregnant South Side woman whom police found lying beside a car on the city's North Side told officers she had been hit in the head by a man who approached her outside a South Side drug house.
The woman, 32, of Ridge Avenue, said she drove her girlfriend's car to a West Chalmers Avenue house to buy marijuana around 8:50 a.m. Monday. When she left, the man asked her for a ride to the North Side. He asked her for money; she told him she only had $10, and he told her to drop him off.
When she pulled over at Andrews Avenue and Valley Street, the man got out of the car, pulled her out, stole her money and wallet, hit her on the head and tried to steal the car. He left it behind because he could not operate the manual transmission.
The car's owner had reported that the woman had taken her vehicle without permission. The woman, who is seven months pregnant, was treated for head trauma at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
