Police seize cash, car and drugs
AUSTINTOWN -- Police made two traffic stops recently that resulted in seizures of cash, a car and suspected cocaine.
They stopped a car early Sunday morning on state Route 46, south of I-80, and a police dog detected illegal drugs, and a search of the car revealed $19,500 in a hidden compartment. The driver, a New York resident, didn't claim ownership of the cash. Police issued two traffic citations, seized the car and cash and released the driver.
Earlier, police charged Willie Jenkins, 45, of Youngstown, with trafficking in drugs -- a second-degree felony -- after stopping the vehicle he was driving near state Route 11 and I-80 around 6 p.m. Thursday. A police dog alerted, and a search of the vehicle revealed about 9 ounces of suspected cocaine. Jenkins was arraigned Monday night when a hearing was set for 1 p.m. Feb. 25.His arrest was a cooperative effort of Austintown police, the Youngstown police vice squad and the Mahoning Valley Drug Task Force.
