COLUMBIANA CORNER Blasdel co-sponsors 'Sunday hunting' bill

State Rep. Charles Blasdel of East Liverpool, R-3rd, is co-sponsoring the so-called "Sunday hunting" bill introduced in the Ohio House last week by state Rep. Bob Latta of Bowling Green, R-4th.
The bill would lift many of the restrictions now placed on Sunday hunting in the state. Blasdel said he signed on as co-sponsor after hearing "from a good number of hunting-oriented groups in the county and each of them applauded the bill."
Really big report: Columbiana County commissioners recently agreed to accept a voluminous report on planning for emergencies.
The nearly 4-inch-thick tome prompted the commissioner chairman to jokingly ask Commissioner Sean Logan if he had read the entire document.
"I looked at the edge of the pages," Logan responded.
Lectern donated: At a recent Columbiana village school board meeting, the Columbiana High School Class of 1966 presented a lectern the class donated to the district.
On the front of the lectern is a plaque with the high school's Clipper logo, donated by Dan and Erle Blake in memory of their daughter, Krista Blake, who died in 1994 at 22 from complications of AIDS.
Class members asked Erle Blake, who recently retired after 271/2 years as a secretary in the district, to say a few words about the donation. She stepped to the front of the room, placed a hand on the lectern, and said, "Well, here it is."
