Report: Fitch may apply to Federal

Published: Sat, February 2, 2002 @ 12:00 a.m.

AUSTINTOWN -- Fitch High is likely to submit an application to the Federal League, according to a story in Friday's Akron Beacon Journal.

The seven-school Federal League loses Wooster and Alliance, which is joining the Metro Athletic Conference, after next school year.

Boardman has also been rumored to be interested in joining the Federal League.

The two schools, members of the Steel Valley Conference, expressed interest in joining last year, but Federal League officials did not act on the interest, citing the distance between the schools as the main factor, the story said.

The other teams in the Federal are Massillon Jackson, North Canton Hoover, Massillon Perry, Canton GlenOak and Uniontown Lake, which is the only team not in Division I.
