GIRARD Indalex workers ratify a three-year contract

Published: Fri, February 1, 2002 @ 12:00 a.m.

THE VINDICATOR, YOUNGSTOWN

GIRARD -- By a 2-1 margin, union members ratified a three-year contract with the Indalex aluminum extrusions plant here, just a few hours before a midnight Thursday contract expiration and strike deadline.

Company spokesman Scott Langdon said the new contract contains improvements in wages and vacation and retirement provisions, but said he didn't have specifics.

United Steelworkers of America Local 4564 represents about 400 workers at the plant.

Union officials could not be reached for comment.

The plant, formerly owned by Easco, was bought by Caradon Extrusions of England in 1999.
