CANFIELD -- A Leffingwell Road man was arrested Thursday evening when police found brass knuckles and suspected marijuana in his car.
The man, 29, is charged by police with drug abuse marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, carrying concealed weapons, driving under suspension and reckless operation. Police pulled the man's car over around 6 p.m. after he "peeled out" on West Main Street. The man said he wanted to test his car, which recently had been fixed. He added that he knew a cruiser was behind him when he peeled out, and that he did not have a valid driver's license.
When the car was searched, police found the brass knuckles, a hemostat, a plastic bag containing suspected marijuana, a multicolored pipe, rolling papers, a rolling machine, a scale, a hypodermic syringe, two packs of hypodermic needles and a small straw.
The man told police he owned the brass knuckles. He did not say that he owned any of the other items.
Girl reports rape
AUSTINTOWN -- An Austintown teen is talking with social workers about pursuing charges against an 18-year-old neighbor who she said raped her Wednesday night at her home.
The girl, 17, told police she most likely did not want to pursue the charges but would talk with the social workers before making a final decision. She said the neighbor attacked her around 11 p.m. after she and a friend had watched television with him.
After her friend left around 10:30 p.m., the girl decided to put her infant to bed, and the neighbor followed her to the bedroom, she said. There he put his hands around her neck and forced her to the bed and raped her, she said.
The girl told her mother about the attack when the mother returned from work around 9 a.m. Thursday. Her mother took her to Forum Health Tod Children's Hospital, where employees called social workers and police.
