Last-minute gifts will wrap up list

Here are a few last-minute gift ideas for home sewers on your list. They're available at most fabric or craft stores, so there's no wait for shipping.
Dritz Electric Scissors are especially good for people with arthritic hands. On sale at Hancock Fabrics at $59.95, they're sharp enough to cut through leather as well as fabric. Inexpensive battery-powered scissors by Dritz have a simple push-button, at $5.99 a pair.
The new Mini-Iron is ideal for reaching small spaces in sewing and quilting projects. It's lightweight, with multiple temperature settings and an easy glide sole plate. It's packaged as a gift set with its own long cord, mini stand and tote bag, for $24.95.
The Ott-Lite 13-watt Task Lamp (about $50) offers simulated natural light, for better color and reduced eyestrain. The version with a built-in magnifier is $90.
The 18-watt floor lamp by Ott-Lite is also full-spectrum, with an adjustable head, at about $140. They're all at JoAnn Fabrics and JoAnn Etc. stores.
Need more ideas? At Hancock, JoAnn's and other major fabrics and craft stores, you'll find nicely packaged scissors sets by Mundial or Gingher, starting at about $15, or padded sewing machine carrying cases with extendable handles and pockets for accessories. These run about $50.
