Naval Hospital Corps
Navy Hospitalman Apprentice Travis J. Reither, son of Cindy R. Painter of Clarks Mills, Pa., and Donald E. Reither of Mercer, Pa., graduated from the 14-week Basic Hospital Corps School at Naval Hospital Corps School, Great Lakes, Ill. Reither is a 2001 graduate of Commodore Perry High School of Hadley, Pa.
Communications
Marine Corps Pfc. Jason A. Wesley, son of Linda L. Wesley of Girard, graduated from the Communications Signals Collection and Processing Course at Naval Technical Training Center Corry Station, Pensacola, Fla. Wesley is a 1998 graduate of Girard High School.
Submarine course
Navy Seaman Matthew S. Steele, son of Rada Cline of Salem and Charles Steele of Youngstown, graduated from the six-week Basic Enlisted Submarine Course at Naval Submarine School in Groton, Conn. Steele joined the Navy in July.
PROMOTIONS
Petty officer 2nd class
Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Travis Stauffer was promoted to his rank while assigned as an electronic warfare technician aboard the USS Shiloh, deployed to the Persian Gulf in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Stauffer, son of Ron and Linda Stauffer of Vienna, is a 1999 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and a member of the Navy's Southern Pacific wrestling team.
Marine corporal
Marine Corps Cpl. Michael G. Czombos, son of Debra R. and Paul A. Czombos of Youngstown, was promoted to his rank while serving with 1st Battalion, 10th Marines, 2nd Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, N.C. He is a 2000 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School.
Enduring freedom
Air Force Staff Sgt. Steven D. Barton has deployed to an overseas forward operating location to support the mission of Operation Enduring Freedom.
The sergeant, a security force journeyman, is the son of Erla A. McGurren and the grandson of Laura Kidd, both of East Liverpool. He graduated in 1980 from Beaver Local High School, Lisbon, and received an associate degree in 2000 from Lakeland Community College in Kirtland.
