E. Palestine rolls past Wellsville

EAST PALESTINE -- Fullback J.D. Powers ran for two touchdowns and quarterback Smitty Kendrew ran for one touchdown and passed for another to lead East Palestine past Wellsville 36-14 Friday.
The Bulldogs (2-0) finished with 365 yards, including 321 on the ground. Powers ran for 140 yards on 22 tries. Kendrew added 114 yards on 16 carries.
Sophomore safety Brett Young had two interceptions.
United 18, Rootstown 16: ROOTSTOWN -- Mitch Phillis tossed three touchdown passes, two to wideout Corey Manfull, to lead United to a non-league victory over host Rootstown.
Phillis hit 16-of-26 passes for 233 yards for United (2-0). Manfull caught nine passes for 192 yards. Jordan Phillips paced the ground game with 73 yards on 16 carries.
