Teammates congratulate senior tailback P.J. Mays after his first of two touchdowns in the first football game of the season for Youngstown State University. The hand atop his helmet belongs to quarterback Colby Street. The Penguins struggled Thursday night to beat Division II Clarion 27-14 before 17,834 fans, the largest season-opening crowd at Stambaugh Stadium. YSU led 20-0 at halftime but then was outplayed by the Golden Eagles in the second half, leaving second-year coach Jon Heacock disappointed.
