Sophomore Chris DePaola powered Ursuline to a 2-0 win over Warren JFK.
STRUTHERS -- Sophomore forward Chris DePaola scored his first two goals of the season, as Ursuline High defeated Warren JFK 2-0 in a boys soccer match at Valley Sports Thursday.
DePaola's first goal, at 27 minutes, 35 seconds of the first half, was assisted by senior Jeff Serenko, while senior Rob Heckel assisted on DePaola's second goal 15:10 before the break.
Senior Ryan Coffey had five saves for the Irish (2-0), while sophomore Brian Wolnik saved 15 saves for the Eagles (0-3).
United 2, East Liverpool 1: HANOVERTON -- Brock Volio and Austin Dangler each scored a goal for United.
Goalkeeper Evan Egli had 10 saves for United (2-1). The Golden Eagles had 21 shots on goal, compared to 15 for East Liverpool.
Tyler Thayer scored the goal for the Potters (1-2).
Fitch 2, New Philadelphia 1: AUSTINTOWN -- Gus Martinez and Sam Camens each scored a goal for the Falcons (2-1). Anthony Colaluca had an assists. Goalkeeper Brent Sopko had eight saves. Fitch had 12 shots on goal. Andy Hicks scored the goal for the Quakers (1-1).
Niles 2, Alliance 2: NILES -- Brad McFadden scored both of the Red Dragons goals, the second tied the scored at 2 all with three minutes remaining in the game. Tommy Clay had an assist for Niles (0-1-1). Goalkeeper Brett Gatta had 10 saves. Dustin Brown and David Lipley scored a goal apiece for Alliance (0-1). Goalie Dan Hisey had three saves.
Girls: YOUNGSTOWN -- Seniors Amy Edwards and Elizabeth Oles, sophomore Amanda Stanavich and freshmen Gina Fabian, Marisa Simon, and Kelli Willis all scored goals, as Cardinal Mooney defeated visiting Liberty 6-0.
Mooney is 3-0. Kelli Willis had two assists, while Marisa Simon, junior Jamie Matteo, sophomore Brianna Groubert and freshman Kelly Burke had one assist each.
Senior Adrianne Detesco and freshman Natalie Humphreys each had two saves for the Cardinals.
Girard 3, Badger 0: KINSMAN -- Jenny Sopkovich scored three goals and Megan Carson had an assists for the Indians (2-0-1, 2-0-1 TAC). Angela DiPiero, Girard's goalie had seven saves. Liz Smith had eight saves for the Braves.
Hubbard 2, Champion 1: HUBBARD -- Jami Duvall scored both goals in the second half for the Eagles (2-0, 1-0 TAC). Christa Andamasaris tallied the goal for the Golden Flashes (1-1, 0-1). Lynle Cornell had four saves for Hubbard. Elizabeth Wood had 17 saves for Champion.
