Pero leads Chaney to 9-2 soccer win

YOUNGSTOWN -- Mike Pero scored three goals and one assists as Chaney High defeated Canton Timken 9-2 in a boys soccer match on Monday.

Eric Sheffield, Terrance Phelps, Adam Garcia, Mark Mraz, Taylor Millich and Jessica Meso each added a goal for the Cowboys (1-0). Danielle Beveridge, Jarrod Garica and Dwin Moran had an assist apiece. Goalkeeper Sabrina Crincic had five saves.

Justin Prophet and Kevin Letender scored a goal apiece for the Trojans (0-1). Goalie Tom Dazey had 24 saves.

Columbiana 9, East Palestine 1: COLUMBIANA -- Barry Kimpel scored four goals, Ryan Schmidt added two more while Eric Birnesser and Brad Bancroft each had a score.

Brian Glick, Birnesser and Schmidt each had two assists.

Quinn Cramer scored for the Bulldogs.

Girls: GIRARD -- Jenny Sopkovich scored three goals, while Morgan Tondo and Krista Kirkpatrick each added one as Girard defeated Liberty 5-0. Tondo had two assists, while Sopkovich and Kirkpatrick had one each. Game details were omitted in Sunday's edition.

Wilmington 0, Warren JFK 0: WARREN -- Emily Sailor had 13 saves in goal for the Greyhounds (0-0-1).

JFK (0-1-1) keeper Michelle Rossio saved 11 shots.
