The Mahoning County Veterans Service Commission has changed its meeting time and place. It will meet Friday at 9 a.m. at the Canfield Fairgrounds in the Mahoning Veterans Memorial Building. The organization usually meets at 8:30 a.m. in the Mahoning County Annex.

U Air Force Reserve Airman 1st Class Jeffrey D. Burgess graduated from the aerospace propulsion apprentice (turboprop) course at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas. Burgess is the son of Jeff and Georganne Burgess of New Castle, Pa., and a 1999 graduate of Laurel High School, New Castle.
U Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Christopher D. Wilford, son of Patti M. Wilford of Brookfield, and Douglas Wilford of Orange Park, Fla., graduated from Basic Refrigeration Mechanic Course. Wilford is a 2000 graduate of Brookfield High School.
Air Force 2nd Lt. David J. Cathell was commissioned while serving as a missile and combat crew member assigned to the 9th Space Wing, Minot Air Force Base, N.D. He is the son of Sally I. Paugh and stepson of Kieth Paugh of Wellsville.
He graduated in 1991 from Wellsville High School and received a bachelor's degree in 2001 from the University of Minnesota, Crookston.
Deployed to Saudi Arabia
Army Spec. Brent I. Briggs and Sgt. 1st Class Johnnie B. Smith have deployed to Saudi Arabia in support Operation Enduring Freedom, where they will serve under U.S. Army Forces, U.S. Central Command. They are regularly assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 2nd Air Defense Artillery at Fort Bliss, Texas.
A Patriot missile crew member, Briggs is the son of Craig V. and Debi L. Briggs of Howland and is a 1997 graduate of Howland High School.
Smith, a Patriot launching station enhanced operator/maintainer, is the son of James E. and Mattie P. Hawkins of New Castle, Pa. He is a 1975 graduate of Lawrence County Vocational Technical High School, New Castle.
RETURNED TO U.S.
Army Spec. Lee D. Ashley has returned to the United States from Afghanistan, where he was deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
He is now assigned to the 626th Forward Support Battalion at Fort Campbell, Ky. Ashley, a motor transport operator, is the grandson of Verty M. Ashley of Masury and is a 1998 graduate of Brookfield High School.
