CANFIELD -- A Canterbury Court man has been charged with assault after an altercation with a youth football coach at Canfield Middle School.
Police arrested William Delorenzo, 43, Monday night. The coach and Delorenzo are neighbors, and the coach's wife told police the two have had disputes in the past.
Reports state that at 8 p.m., as coaches and parents left the team's practice, Delorenzo cursed at the coach's wife. The coach's wife got into an argument with Delorenzo, and the coach told Delorenzo to leave.
The coach told police that Delorenzo then punched him in the jaw.
The two men fought before they were separated by other coaches, reports state.
Delorenzo later told police that the coach's wife cursed at him first. He said that the coach then cursed, charged at him and tried to punch him. Delorenzo said he punched the coach to defend himself.
