YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown State University freshman Emily Schnitkey will represent YSU at the USA

YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown State University freshman Emily Schnitkey will represent YSU at the USA Track and Field Junior National Championships in the women's 5,000-meter run at Stanford Univ. Friday.

Schnitkey, the 2001 Horizon League Newcomer of the Year, set a school record in the 5,000 with a time of 17 minutes, 21 seconds.

She is ranked sixth in the field of 16 in the race, based on time.

NILES -- The Mahoning Valley Scrappers have a suite at Cafaro Field that can be rented on a nightly basis this summer.

LAS VEGAS -- Youngstown middleweight boxer Kelly Pavlik will risk his 12-0 record on a professional card Friday night here at the Orleans Hotel.

Pavlik has 12 knockouts.

He will meet Eric Oles (5-2, three KOs) of Cleveland.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Dwayne Martin, a former assistant football coach at Wesley College, was hired as linebackers coach at Slippery Rock University.

Martin replaces Shawn Rohrer who served in an interim capacity for the past two seasons.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Lacey Bronson, a senior at Bowling Green High, will play softball at YSU. Bronson played summer ball with the Ohio Lady Laser Red, batting .327 and stealing 18 bases in 25 attempts.

CANFIELD -- Tracy and Rick Walter bowled a combined 1,446 to take the lead in the 30th Annual Mar Hill Mixed Doubles bowling tournament at Amron Lanes. Charlesetto McKinley and Ray Bakes were second with 1,428 and Tracy Walter and Lance Koss were third with 1,416.

NEW WILMINGTON -- More than 330 swimmers attended the 17th annual Titan Swim Camp held this month at Westminster College under coach Rob Klamut.

Camp participants from the Youngstown area were Gavin Trebilcock, Chad Nasci, Michael Henson, Garrett Trebilcock, Megan Barringer, Kreista Yankush, Jenna Moore, Lexi Skoufatos, Mel Sfara, Emily Bush, Nick Skoufatos, Ryan Nasci, Jennifer Sabula, Jackie Nentwick, Kelly Kuntzman, Michael Barringer, Josh Day, Katie Henbson, Morgan McCarty, Connor O'Halloran, Kate Barringer, Sara Henson, Ali Sfara, Mark Kuntzman, Bradley Mullis, Chad Henson, Bobbie Hurtuck, Erik Kuffel and Tom Boniface.
