Pig Iron Pressto host Poetry Slam
YOUNGSTOWN -- Pig Iron Press will host its fourth annual Poetry Slam at Cedars Caf & eacute;, 7:30 p.m., Wednesday. The event combines poetry with performance as writers perform their best works for a randomly selected panel of spectator judges.
The winner will take home gift certificates and a piggy bank full of goodies.
Sign-up will begin at the door at 6:45 p.m. and will close off at 7:25. Readers are asked to read one original work and to limit presentation to four minutes. Five non-participating members of the audience will be selected to serve as judges. Judges will evaluate readers based on the quality of the work and the originality of the presentation. No props or costumes are allowed. Memorization is encouraged but not required.
Prize donors for the 2002 Poetry Slam include Pig Iron Press and Cedars Caf & eacute;. There are no restrictions on who may enter or win the competition.
