Vocation director
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Rev. Leo Wehrlin has been appointed the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown's vocation director effective Sept. 1. Bishop Thomas J. Tobin made the appointment.
Father Wehrlin was ordained in 1993 after completing seminary studies at Mount St. Mary Seminary in Cincinnati. He has served as assistant vocation director since July 2001, in addition to his responsibilities as pastor at St. Ann Parish in Sebring. He is diocesan director of Scouts.
He will work with Monsignor John Zuraw, executive director of clergy and religious services, who has also served as vocation director and administrator of Immaculate Conception Parish in Youngstown.
Healing service offered
YOUNGSTOWN -- Christ Church Presbyterian will have an ecumenical healing and prayer service at 7 p.m. Sunday. Time will be allowed for personal ministry, for those in need of physical, spiritual, emotional or relationship healing.
Revival speaker set
YOUNGSTOWN -- A revival will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday at the Potter's House Church. The guest speaker is evangelist John Merola of Zelienople, Pa. He was ordained through Lester Sumrall Evangelistic Association and is a Rhema Bible Training Center graduate.
Group to perform
WARREN -- First United Church of Christ will host the group Re-Creation at 7 p.m. Aug. 25. The group of young people was founded in 1976. It presents both religious and family-oriented music. An offering will be taken.
Christmas program
GIRARD -- Girard First United Methodist Church will present "Christmas in August" at 10 a.m. Aug. 25. The service will feature Christmas carols and music, a message about "Operation Christmas Child" and a story for children. Root-beer floats will be served after the service. Call (330) 545-4361.
Tyehimba service
YOUNGSTOWN -- Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church will honor academic excellence and scholastic achievements with a Tyehimba service at 3 p.m. Sunday. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Mitchel Nickols, who is senior pastor of the Bibleway Christian Fellowship Church in New Kensington, Pa.
Among the Tyehimba honor recipients will be Kathleen Adams, an educator in the Youngstown schools.
Tyehimba is a Swahili expression that means "we stand as a nation." Tyehimba, an Afrocentric ceremony, was created in 1990 at the University of Cincinnati to celebrate scholarship and foster unity and collective responsibility.
Pastor named
NORTH JACKSON -- The First Federated Church of North Jackson has announced that the Rev. Bradley Jagger, a native of Amherst, Ohio, became its pastor in late June. The Rev. Mr. Jagger has been a pastor for six years. First Federated Church's main affiliations are Presbyterian, United Church of Christ and Disciples of Christ. Services are at 10:15 a.m. Sunday. Marriage seminar

Prayer group meets

Wedding celebration
CANTON -- The Office of Marriage and Family Ministry of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown is sponsoring its second Wedding Anniversary Celebration of 2002 that honors diocesan couples who are observing their 25th, 40th, 50th or higher anniversaries this year.
A special Mass at 2 p.m. Oct. 13 will be celebrated by Bishop Thomas J. Tobin in St. John the Baptist Church in Canton. Couples will renew their marriage vows and receive a personalized certificate signed by Bishop Tobin. To register, couples should contact their parish by Sept. 9.

Dixieland music
COLUMBIANA -- The Hymns of Dixieland will participate in the service at Grace United Church of Christ at 10 a.m. Sunday. The message will focus on music. There will be opportunity to meet and talk with members of the group after the service.
City youth event
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Greater Friendship Baptist Church will host "City Wide Back to School Youth Explosion" at 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday. The guest preacher will be the Rev. Cordell Jenkins, pastor of The Metropolitan AME Zion Church in Chester, S.C. A citywide youth choir will perform. Dress is casual.
Praise rally scheduled
NORTH LIMA -- An All Faith Praise Rally will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 24 at Cornerstone Assembly of God. Various denominations will take part. Call (330) 549-0406.
Ministry hosts speakers
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- A seminar, "Broken to Be Made Whole," will be hosted by Wind in the Word Outreach Ministry from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 24 at Sharon's Premier Hotel. Speakers include missionary Doris Fryson of Community Baptist Church, Farrell, Pa., and evangelist Crystal Williams of Mount Calvary Pentecostal Church in Youngstown. At 6 p.m. the speaker will be Pastor Daryl Allen of Prepare the Way Ministry, Pittsburgh, with musical guests from Community Church of God in Christ, Warren. There is no registration fee. At 6 p.m. Aug. 25, the speaker will be Brady Hill Sr. of The Whole Truth Ministry in Hazelwood, Pa.
