Confronted burglar assaults janitor

Published: Mon, August 12, 2002 @ 12:00 a.m.

GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Hempfield Township police said a janitor entering Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3374 got a surprise when he came across a man burglarizing the place.

Police said the janitor entered the building around 5:20 a.m. Sunday and had a brief confrontation with the burglar who assaulted him.

The janitor wasn't injured and was able to call police. The burglar, who escaped with an undetermined amount of cash, fled the building and jumped over a fence into the Oakes & amp; McClelland building supply compound and stole a white pickup truck with the Oakes & amp; McClelland logo on the side.

The truck hasn't been recovered, although police said they do have a suspect they are seeking.
