POLAND -- Poland Presbyterian Church was the setting at 3:30 p.m. July 6 for the wedding of Elizabeth Anne Haas, daughter of Robert and Denise Haas, Tuscany Estates, and Thomas H. Backus III, a son of Thomas and Georgia Backus, Burgess Manor.
The Rev. Dr. Robert Hoover presided at the ceremony, and a reception was held afterward at Mr. Anthony's in Boardman.
After a wedding trip to Key West, Fla., the couple live at 5139 Raven Way, Sanford, N.C.
The bride's A-line gown was embellished with pearl beading. It was fashioned of Italian satin and featured a sweetheart neckline and chapel train. Her veil was gathered to a pearl and crystal tiara, and she held a bouquet of coral and white roses.
Periwinkle-colored gowns were worn by Stacy Nard, the honor attendant, and the bridesmaids, Jamye Backus, a sister of the groom; Ann Poland; Amanda Seyler; and Alexa Sweeney.
The duties of best man were performed by Phillip Simington, and groomsmen were Matt Cochran, John Matyasovsky, Scott Walker and the bride's brother, Robert Haas. Also participating was Wayne Barrett.
The bride graduated from Youngstown State University with a bachelor's degree in education. She is a fourth-grade teacher at Tramway Elementary School in Sanford.
The groom, a special-education teacher at Tramway Elementary School, graduated from Westminster College, New Wilmington, Pa., with a bachelor's degree in special education-Christian education.
