Man is charged in attempted robbery of pizza shop owner

EAST LIVERPOOL -- St. Clair Township police arrested Frank Lewis, 21, of Puritan Avenue on a charge of attempted robbery of the owner of Papa John's Pizza in the township.
Police said Nadeem Baiwa was making a night deposit at the National City Bank branch in the Oakmont Plaza about 1:20 a.m. Thursday when a man appeared wearing a bandanna and holding a large beer bottle.
Police said the beer bottle appeared to be empty and Lewis may have intended to use the bottle as a weapon.
Police said that when Lewis demanded money, Baiwa recognized his voice and kept him talking, then told Lewis he knew who he was. The man swore, threw the beer bottle and ran away.
Police found Lewis the following day at his girlfriend's home, which is within a block of both the bank and the pizza shop.
Police said that though Lewis denied any involvement, they had enough evidence to file the attempted robbery charge. He was to be arraigned in East Liverpool Municipal Court this morning.
