Amish country program

KENT -- PBS Channels 45 and 49 will present "A Simple Life," a 90-minute video guide on Amish country in Holmes County, which will premiere at 8 p.m. Thursday. Repeat showings will be at 12:30 a.m. Saturday and 9:30 p.m. Aug. 17 and 20.

Writer-director Phil Hoffman invites viewers to see the sights and sounds of the well-visited tourist destination that is home to 31,000 Amish. The program will feature information on Holmes County history and Amish restaurants, stores and other tourist stops. Viewers also will take a vicarious buggy ride, a popular way tourists see the countryside, and get a feel for the pace of life in this rural northeastern Ohio county.

Rib Cook-Off

BOARDMAN -- Eight rib vendors, six rock bands and one nationally-known country music singer will be at the fifth annual Coca-Cola Rib Cook-Off in the parking lot of Southern Park Mall, U.S. Route 224 and Market Street. Opening day will be Friday, and music will be by Pittsburgh acts Joe Grushecky (at 9:15 p.m.) and The Clarks (10 p.m.). Music will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday with Fins to the Left, a Jimmy Buffett tribute band, followed by a bikini contest and more music by The Benders (8:30), Eye Docs of Rock (9:30) and The Doors tribute band, Moonlight Drive (10:30). Art event

MIDDLEFIELD -- The Stained Pane Gallery will present "Tapestry in Art" from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday on the gallery lawn, 13770 Old State Road (state Route 608).

Betsy Roll, gallery owner, has organized an event featuring various artists and mediums including ceramics, sculpture, jewelry, watercolor, silk, photography and stained glass. Among featured artists will be Mary Kay Simoni and Helen Gilmore.

The event also will include a concert by Unknown Reason at 1 p.m., balloons and tattoos for children, food and Amish baked goods.

Music and fashion party

CLEVELAND -- Music and fashion go together at Club Rock Style, a party from 8 p.m. to midnight Sept. 7 at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. The winner of Steve Madden's National Rock 'N Sole Search contest will perform, as well as club DJs. A fashion show will be a highlight of the evening. 'Ultimate Makeover'

Ever feel like it would take a team of experts working around the clock to make you look good?

ABC is looking for two women and one man who feel just this way for their new one-hour special, "Ultimate Makeover." The chosen three will receive the attentions of hair, makeup and wardrobe experts. Personal trainers will also be provided, but if that doesn't work, the producers will spring for plastic surgery.
