YOUNGSTOWN -- The local competition of the McDonald's Gospel Choir competition will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Aug. 17 at Greater Friendship Baptist Church. The event is free. Choirs should register by Aug. 10 by calling (216) 831-1858.
Similar competitions are being held in Canton and Cleveland. The local winner will go on to compete at the finals in September at the Allen Theatre in Cleveland. The ultimate winner gets professional help with a recording and the title "McDonald's Gospel Choir of the Year." The competition is sponsored by McDonald's owners and operators in Northeast Ohio.
Concert scheduled
GIRARD -- Rich and Tami Stevens will perform at 6 p.m. Sunday at First Assembly of God. Admission is free. The evangelists, from Warren, have performed their family-oriented music in 31 states.
Revival services
GIRARD -- Kenny and Kathy Large will have revival services at 7 p.m. Aug. 18 to 23 at Shiloh Ministries. They will also minister at the service at 10:45 a.m. Sunday.
Patronal celebration
LIBERTY -- St. Rocco's Episcopal Church will have its patronal celebration day with a service at 10 a.m. Aug. 11. There will be an outdoor procession with a statue of the saint and music by a marching band.
From noon until 5 p.m., there will be food and music. Two labyrinths can be walked.
Evangelism programs
LIBERTY -- Evangelist Darlene Waller will present two programs, including a "Dare to Be Different" workshop, from 9 to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 10 at Days Inn. An offering will be taken. Jerusalem pastor

Ebenezer Day
YOUNGSTOWN -- Ebenezer Church of God in Christ will celebrate Ebenezer Day on Sunday to observe the church's move seven years ago from 903 Franklin Ave. to its present location at 566 W. Indianola Ave., and to welcome all past and present members. The church is 62 years old, according to its pastor, Ernest Walker III. Prayer is at 9 a.m., Sunday school is at 10 a.m., and worship is at 11 a.m. At 5 p.m., the congregation will be joined by the members of Ebenezer Church of God in Christ in New Castle, Pa.
Revival services set
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Rev. Kevin Crum Sr., a Youngstown native who is pastor of Hopewell Baptist Church in Tupelo, Miss., will be the guest revivalist at services at 7 p.m. Monday through Friday at New Hope Baptist Church. Local choirs will participate. The Rev. Mr. Crum was licensed to the ministry in August of 1978 at New Hope.
Flame Fellowship
BOARDMAN -- The Rev. Clyde and Scheherazade Daniels will speak when the Youngstown chapter of Flame Fellowship meets Aug. 19 in the Georgeanna Parker Activity Center. A catered lunch by reservation at 11 a.m. costs $7. The speakers will follow. Call (330) 792-0832.
