EDINBURG -- The Howland Lady Tigers 9-10-year-old fastpitch softball team won the Ohio Girls Softball Organization championship 19-12 over Windham in Edinburg Park.
Howland had advanced to the title game with victories over Brimfield (10-6) and Lordstown (8-7) in state preliminary games.
The Little Tigers finished the season with a 23-3 record, including 15-0 in the Trumbull County Girls Fastpitch League, and 5-0 in the postseason.
Melanie Cope pitched all three state games, including a one-hitter against Brimfield, and won all five postseason contests. She compiled a 14-2 record, including 8-0 in the league. Amanda Delaquila had a 7-0 league record.
Keying Howland at the plate against Windham were Hayley Marchio with a double, three singles and three RBIs, while Delaquila added three singles and three RBIs, and Alexandria Raeburn a triple, single and two RBIs.
Delaquila also paced the win over Brimfield with a double, three singles and six RBIs, while Raeburn was the leader against Lordstown with a double, single and four RBIs.
Other members of the Howland team were Jill Cope, Carla Cope, Kelsey Vellente, Maddie Griffiths, Bryce Phillips, Taylor Hill, Kaycee Mintern and Jessica Wilson.
The team manager was Rich Delaquila Jr. and the coaches were Mark Wilson, Laurie Wilson and Rich Delaquila Sr.
