PREP BASEBALL Repec directs Boardman to SVC victory

Steve Varkony tossed a five-inning no-hitter for Crestview.

BOARDMAN -- Matt Repec homered, doubled and drove in two for Boardman High, which beat Austintown Fitch 5-2 Monday in a Steel Valley Conference baseball game.

Andy Good added two hits and pitched six innings to improve to 2-0. Mike Krieger got his second save for Boardman (9-0, 6-0 SVC).

Steve Burnich had two hits for Fitch (8-5, 2-2).

Chaney 12, Wilson 0: YOUNGSTOWN -- Jeff Shaffo had two hits, three RBIs and stole two bases for Chaney (6-4, 2-0 City Series).

D.J. Fahndrich had two hits, including a homer, with two RBIs, and Phil Faraglia had two hits, scored four runs and had two RBIs.

Wilson is 0-5, 0-2.

Canfield 9, Niles 7: CANFIELD -- Jake Wargacki tossed three scoreless innings to get the save for Canfield (11-3, 5-0 Metro Athletic Conference).

Brent Parks and Chad Baker each had two hits for the Cardinals.

Matt Baritell had three hits, and Joe Toth and Vince Gatta each added two hits for Niles (6-4, 3-2).

Jackson-Milton 13, Springfield 3: NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Josh Kosa had three hits, including two doubles, and Kevin McKay added three hits for Jackson-Milton (3-6).

Ben Infante added two hits for the Bluejays. Aaron Wood had two hits and two RBIs for the Tigers (2-7, 2-4 Inter-County League).

Western Reserve 8, Mineral Ridge 0: MINERAL RIDGE -- Andrew Lenhart had two singles and scored twice for Western Reserve (9-2, 6-1 ICL).

Brandon Keck struck out 10 and walked four to improve to 4-0. Kyle Kekic had a triple and a double, Luke Srock hit a two-run home run and Nick Sanders had two singles.

Girard 7, Lakeview 4: GIRARD -- After the Bulldogs scored twice in the top of the sixth for a 4-3 lead, the Indians answered with a four-run frame.

Josh Barnett hit a homer in the sixth for Lakeview. Greg Cook went 3-for-3 for the Indians (9-2, 6-2 Trumbull Athletic Conference).

LaBrae 8, Hubbard 0: HUBBARD -- Josh Shaffer went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and Gary Bush and Jeff Booly each added two hits for LaBrae (4-3, 4-2 Trumbull Athletic Conference). Chad Carr pitched a one-hitter for the Vikings.

Hubbard is 3-4, 3-3.

Crestview 11, Leetonia 0: COLUMBIANA -- Steve Varkony tossed a five-inning no-hitter for Crestview (10-3, 8-0 Tri-County League).

David Wendall had a double and an RBI, Matt Thompson had two hits and two RBIs and Andy Neiheisel had two hits for the Rebels.

Columbiana 5, East Palestine 1: COLUMBIANA -- Nate Shaw struck out five and walked none to improve to 3-0.

Shaw and Ryan Schmidt each had two hits for Columbiana (9-4, 8-1 TCL). Joe Whitman had two hits, including a triple, for East Palestine.

Southington 13, Ledgemont 0: SOUTHINGTON -- Kevin Swiger had two hits and three RBIs and Tim Grimm added four RBIs for the Wildcats (6-2, 4-1 East Suburban Conference).

Patrick Stantial (2-1) had 10 strikeouts and one walk. Eric Elmore had two hits.

Yo. Christian 12, Jefferson County 2: YOUNGSTOWN -- Eric Bader had a triple and a single for Youngstown Christian. Patrick Bader, Themi Tsarnas and Tom Kurz each had a double and Justin Sergeant added a triple in the victory.
