Matthew Shepard, 21, was beaten and left for dead along a rural road outside Laramie, Wyo. He died five days later. His mother became an activist in the prevention of hate crimes. Her lecture is part of a series focusing on "Working for a Hate-Free Society," including readings of "The Laramie Project," an off-Broadway, documentary play about how Laramie residents reacted to Shepard's death.
