Agreed Wednesday to pay parents an approved state reimbursement rate to transporting their children to Victory Christian School.
Approved the retirement resignation of Andrew Vuchak, effective July 1, 2002. Vuchak has been a teacher at Brookfield local schools for 35 years.
Approved hiring Walt Nogay as middle school in-school suspension/intervention supervisor for the 2002-2003 school year.
Approved hiring David Mischick as middle school teacher for the 2002-2003 school year.
Joanne Sydlowski, a board member of the Trumbull County Technical and Career Center, announced that all equipment from the Gordan D. James Center is being moved to TCTC, as requested by the state . The James Center will be used only for adult education classes now.
Met behind closed doors Wednesday with board lawyer Ted Prasse to discuss legal issues regarding the Girard Lakes property. Girard wants to transfer ownership of the lakes to the Girard Board of Education, but the Mathews School District wants the property because of possible land developments that would benefit the school system.
Approved a resolution authorizing an agreement for the acquisition of a bus garage through the state purchasing pool.
Heard from Maggie Strohm, president of the Mathews Education Association, about the need for Mathews to go forward with an all-day kindergarten program and hiring one additional teacher.
Strohm said teachers already are behind with the kindergarten class.
Seven school districts in Trumbull County offer all-day kindergarten classes, four have full-day alternate, and seven have half-day classes, Strohm said.
