SHARON 8 youths charged with fighting after game

SHARON, Pa. -- Police have filed charges against eight juveniles accused of being involved in the brawl that ended the Sharon-Farrell high school basketball game at Sharon High School on Feb. 2.
Police said seven of the young people, five boys and two girls ranging from 12 to 17 years old, are from Farrell and one, a 17-year-old girl, is from Sharon.
Most are charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest or other law enforcement, and failure to disperse. One, a 15-year-old girl, is charged with aggravated assault on a police officer.
The charges were filed Monday; as many as four more juveniles and four more adults may be charged, said James Epstein, Mercer County district attorney.
One adult, Jesse J. Wilson, 20, of Sharon, formerly of Farrell, has pleaded guilty to resisting arrest and disorderly conduct in the case and is awaiting sentencing.
What happened: Authorities said the fight broke out between a man and a woman in the stands in the waning minutes of the game and quickly escalated when police moved into the stands to separate the combatants.
Some in the crowd turned on police, authorities said, estimating that between 70 and 100 people were involved.
The fight later spread into the commons area outside the gym and the emergency room of Sharon Regional Health System, where some people had gone for treatment.
