OCTOBER SCHEDULES Libraries in Mahoning and Trumbull counties

PUBLIC LIBRARY OF YOUNGSTOWN AND MAHONING COUNTY

"Lance Brown's Tribute to Will Rogers." Journey into the roots of the American experience. Brown plays and sings the cowboy songs and popular music of Rogers' day. The special program will be held at 2 p.m. Oct. 7 at Boardman. Limited space; the first 100 adults will be seated.

"Teen Read Week." Oct. 13-20 with a kickoff event from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 13 at Boardman featuring WHOT-Hot 101. A finale celebration will take place from noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 20 at Austintown with DJs from Kiss-FM Radio, WAKZ. Theme for the week will be "Make Reading a Hobbit," celebrating the J.R.R. Tolkien trilogy.

"Kickin' Karate Demonstration." Presented by the Family Martial Arts Center at 4 p.m. on the following dates: Oct. 16 at South, Oct. 17 at East and Oct. 18 at North.

"Boo to You." Stories, craft and more for children ages 3-6 at 10 a.m. Oct. 17 at West, 5:30 p.m. Oct. 18 at East, 11 a.m. Oct. 20 at North and 3 p.m. Oct. 20 at South. Youngsters are encouraged to attend in costume.

"Fright Night." Scary stories and games for ages 7 and up at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 23 at North, 5:30 p.m. Oct. 24 at South and 4 p.m. Oct. 25 at East. (No Halloween content.)

"H-o-o-t-s & amp; H-o-w-l-s." Stories and spooky fun for school-age children at 4 p.m. Oct. 29 at Canfield, 4 p.m. Oct. 30 at Sebring and 7 p.m. Oct. 30 at Boardman. Wear costumes.

"Have a Howling Halloween." Stories and more fun for school-age children at 4 p.m. Oct. 17 at West, 4:30 p.m. Oct. 24 at Lake Milton (all ages), 4:30 p.m. Oct. 25 at North Jackson (all ages), 4 p.m. Oct. 30 at Austintown and 7 p.m. Oct. 30 at Main Library. Wear costumes.

"Not a Very Scary Halloween." Stories and more for children of all ages at 4 p.m. Oct. 23 at New Middletown, 10:30 a.m. Oct. 27 at North Lima, 1 p.m. Oct. 27 at Greenford and 4 p.m. Oct. 29 at Lowellville. Wear costumes.

"Pumpkin Patch." Pumpkin stories and a craft for children of all ages at 7 p.m. Oct. 25 at Boardman.

"A Purr-fect Halloween." Stories and fun for children 3-6 at 10 a.m. Oct. 25 at Brownlee Woods.

"A Pumpkin Party." Stories, craft and more for children 3-6 at 10 a.m. Oct. 17 at Main Library.

"Fall Fun." Stories and craft for school-age children at 4 p.m. Oct. 16 at Struthers, 4 p.m. Oct. 17 at Campbell and 4 p.m. Oct. 18 at Brownlee Woods.

"Who Took the Cookies from the Cookie Jar?" Yummy stories and craft for children of all ages at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 9 at North, 5:30 p.m. Oct. 10 at South and 4 p.m. Oct. 11 at East.

"Pajama Time Stories." Slumbertime fun for ages 3-6 at 7 p.m. Oct. 11 and 25 at Main Library. (For Oct. 25 program, wear your P.J.'s.

"Something Special." Stories and fun for children 3-6 at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 25 at Sebring.

"Tales for Toddlers." Stories and fun for children ages 2-3 at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Oct. 4 at Austintown (wear costumes), 10 a.m. Oct. 9 at Boardman, and 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Oct. 24 at Canfield (wear costumes). Each child must be accompanied by an adult.

"Time for Babies and Books." Books, songs, rhymes and more at 9:30 a.m. (for 6-12 months) and 10:30 a.m. (for 13-23 months) Oct. 4 at Boardman and Oct. 15 at Canfield, 6 p.m. Oct. 8 (for 13-23 months) at South and 9:30 a.m. Oct. 11 at Austintown. Each baby must be accompanied by an adult.

"Come and Join the Fun." Stories and more for children ages 3-6 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 at Austintown and Boardman and at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Oct. 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 at Canfield. Those attending the Oct. 30 and 31 programs should wear costumes.

"Lunch and Learn at the Library: America's Museum." Dr. Louis Zona will give a brief history of The Butler Institute of American Art and give an outline of plans for its future and upcoming shows. Noon Oct. 9 at Main Library. Those attending may take a brown-bag lunch. Coffee will be provided.
